Highsnobiety x NFL Branded Copywriter

2018 - 2020

Highsnobiety is a Germany-based English streetwear blog, media brand, and production agency. I joined the team in late 2018 as a freelance writer before joining a small team tasked with collaborating with the National Football League.

I worked on the branded content team within Highsnobiety as well as with the NFL to create deliverable copy and coordinate visuals for the ‘TOSS UP’ series. The ‘Toss Up’ was Highsnobiety’s weekly update on everything NFL is your go-to for top playmakers and tastemakers.

The content I produced lived on the website as well as all Highsnobiety social media platforms, a following in total that amasses nearly 6 Million.

Each week throughout the season I would create visual, written, and sponsored content highlighting the NFL and its players in four different categories:

a. First Down - Top player from the following week’s worth of games. Lamar Jackson is a perfect example as he was the season-ending MVP from the season we covered. (Fun fact: Lamar was the youngest player to win MVP since the great Jim Brown)

b. Top Rookie - Along with highlighting a top player I also wanted to highlight a rookie each week that stood out on the field. It felt important to give the first-year players some spotlight as veteran players were usually shown a little more love. San Francisco 49er, Nick Bosa, was highlighted multiple times during the season for his play.

c. Fit Report - The category seemed apparent from the start of this collaboration. As a fashion-heavy publication, I wanted to bring the style of some of the players to the project. Also, from trend reporting, and a quick spin through the internet, it became obvious that we, as a culture look to athletes as leaders of style.

d. Cleat Check - When working on the ‘Toss Up’ I realized that the cleats the players wore went beyond what I had previously imagined. At first look, it was players like Odell Beckham Jr. who would peacock on the field, but it went further than that. The NFL has ‘Cleats for a Cause’ in which the players customize their cleats with designs focused on the charity of their choosing.

e. Off-Field MVP - Since discovering that many players have their own foundations it seemed clear to me that we needed to showcase a player each week that went above and beyond off the field. The NFL has a Walter Peyton Man-of-the-Year award so looking at who was nominated for each team was a starting point of who we would feature.

INDEX MAGAZINE Branded Copywriter

2017 - 2019

INDEX Magazine is a bi-annual fashion editorial publication focusing on the cornerstones of today’s high fashion and the culture surrounding it. Operated entirely by Emerson students the magazine upholds the excellence that has been instilled in it for years at the college where creativity is essential.

I joined the staff in late 2017 early 2018 in an attempt to bring an editorial component to INDEX. Quickly hiring a staff of writers and editors my team created written content that focused on the stories of the clothes and the people wearing them in our magazine. Our stories ranged from an afternoon Balthazar lunch with the man running Supima Cotton, to in-depth looks at Converse (a company based in Boston).

After our Fall issue was released I was then promoted to Editor in Chief of INDEX, a position in which I helped take the magazine to new heights. I was primarily responsible for staffing the magazine as well as overseeing the general operations of the magazine such as ; overseeing meetings, meeting with publishers, coming up with the process that shoots will be developed, making decisions as to what shoots will and won't be included in the magazine, and deciding on individual budget per shoot

During my tenure I negotiated with Emerson to increase our budget by 10%, allowing us to take new creative liberties, and work with a proper amount of funds. My team and I also created working relationships with local and corporate fashion stores in Boston, i.e Sak’s Fifth Avenue, Barney’s, and Bodega to source the best possible brands at our disposal.
